What is ChangeNOW?

ChangeNOW is a non-custodial crypto swap service. You pick the asset to send, pick what you want to receive, enter your destination wallet address, and send the input crypto to the address ChangeNOW generates. The swapped asset lands directly in your wallet. No account needed for basic use.

It supports over 850 cryptocurrencies across major blockchains and offers both fixed and floating rate swap options. ChangeNOW does not store your private keys and does not hold your funds beyond the brief swap window. There is also an API available for developers who want to integrate swap functionality into their own applications.

Swap platforms are useful when you want to convert crypto you already hold without opening a full exchange account. If you need to buy crypto with fiat currency, a crypto exchange is the right tool. If you want to compare the main swap options, see our best crypto swap platforms comparison.

How ChangeNOW works

  1. Go to ChangeNOW and select the asset you want to send and the asset you want to receive.
  2. Enter the destination wallet address for the output asset. Check the network carefully — this is where most mistakes happen.
  3. Choose fixed or floating rate depending on whether you want a locked output amount or are comfortable with slight rate variation.
  4. ChangeNOW generates a deposit address. Send exactly the required amount of your input asset to this address.
  5. ChangeNOW detects the incoming transaction, performs the exchange, and sends the output asset to your specified destination wallet.

The process is simple. The step that matters most is step two: verifying the destination address and network. One wrong character or wrong network choice means permanent loss. ChangeNOW cannot reverse a completed swap.

ChangeNOW swap interface showing the recipient wallet address field for a BTC to ETH conversion

We tested the swap flow through to the recipient address step. This screen shows a BTC to ETH swap at the point where the user enters the destination wallet. Ticker, network and payout address all need to match the wallet you are actually sending to. A clean interface does not protect against a wrong address or wrong network — we would not rush this step.

Supported assets and networks

ChangeNOW supports over 850 cryptocurrencies across major blockchains including Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Tron, Avalanche, Polygon, and many others. This covers major assets like BTC, ETH, USDT (on multiple networks), USDC, SOL, XRP, and BNB, plus a broad range of tokens.

Before swapping, check that your specific asset and network are listed and that your amount meets the minimum. Minimums vary by asset and network and can shift with market conditions.

Fixed rate vs floating rate

ChangeNOW offers two rate modes:

  • Fixed rate: The rate shown at the time you initiate the swap is locked in. You know the exact output amount before sending funds. Fixed rate swaps typically carry a slightly higher spread to cover the lock.
  • Floating rate: The rate reflects the live market when the swap executes. The amount you receive may be slightly more or less than initially quoted. Floating rates often have a lower spread.

For smaller amounts, the difference is usually minor. For larger amounts or during volatile markets, fixed rate gives you more certainty over what you'll receive.

Fees and rate transparency

ChangeNOW does not charge a separate fee. The cost is built into the exchange rate — you receive slightly less than the mid-market rate. The spread varies by asset pair, rate type and market conditions. Compare the quoted output against a live rate before you confirm.

On top of the swap spread, you pay the standard network transaction fee for sending the input asset. Ethereum network fees can be significant during congestion. Networks like Tron, Solana, or BNB Chain typically have much lower fees. For small amounts, network fees can eat into a significant share of what you're swapping, so factor that in before you start.

Buying crypto on ChangeNOW

ChangeNOW also has a buy flow for users who want to purchase crypto with fiat. We checked the USD to BTC route. The platform aggregates offers from third-party payment providers including Guardarian, Banxa and Transak.

USD to BTC buy flow on ChangeNOW, showing third-party payment providers (Guardarian, Banxa, Transak). Payment methods visible in our test included Visa, Mastercard, SEPA, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut, SWIFT, PIX, ACH and FasterPay — but availability depends on the provider, your country, the currency, the amount and your verification level with that provider.

We would compare the final BTC amount, provider terms and the payment route before paying. The rate and fees shown already reflect the provider's spread. Not all payment methods are available everywhere — options vary by country, provider and amount.

KYC and availability

ChangeNOW doesn't require account registration for standard crypto-to-crypto swaps. You just need a destination wallet address to get started.

"No account needed" does not mean no checks ever. Unusually large transactions, certain asset pairs, or flagged jurisdictions may trigger a compliance review. If a swap is paused for identity verification, it usually means the transaction exceeded an automated risk threshold — not necessarily a permanent block.

AML and risk-check tools are part of the ChangeNOW product environment. An accountless swap flow is not the same as an unmonitored one. Transactions can be paused or reviewed if risk controls are triggered, regardless of whether an account was created.

Country availability and supported pair lists vary. Check ChangeNOW's site for restrictions that apply to your location before sending anything.

What ChangeNOW shows before you send

We noticed that ChangeNOW surfaces a set of transaction rules before users send funds. Most swap platforms don't do this, so it's worth calling out.

ChangeNOW useful tips screen showing transaction rules before users send funds, including network compatibility notes and fixed-rate expiry warnings

Transaction rules shown to users before sending funds. Covers cases such as what happens if the deposited asset arrives on a different but compatible network, and warns that fixed-rate terms can change if the deposit arrives after the rate window expires.

The tips cover edge cases that often catch users off guard — including what happens if the deposited coin arrives on an unexpected but technically compatible network, or if the deposit amount falls short of the minimum. It also flags that fixed-rate terms can expire if the deposit arrives late.

We treat this screen as practical risk information, not a guarantee. If something does go wrong, how quickly the support team responds matters as much as the rules themselves.

What users complain about

Delayed swaps

Network congestion or compliance checks can slow processing beyond the initial estimate.

Unexpected KYC requests

A compliance check appearing mid-swap can be frustrating if you were not expecting it.

Wrong network mistakes

The most common cause of permanent loss. Confirm input and output networks before sending.

Support response time

Swap platforms typically have more limited support than regulated exchanges. Save your transaction ID before closing the browser.

Rate difference on floating swaps

Floating rate swaps can deliver less than the initial quote if the market moves during processing.

Refund process uncertainty

Recovery when a swap fails depends on the platform's support team. Know the refund policy before sending significant amounts.

Minimum deposit errors

Sending below the minimum deposit amount can result in funds being unprocessed. Check the minimum before sending.

ChangeNOW vs SimpleSwap

Both are non-custodial swap services with no registration required for basic swaps. Both offer fixed and floating rate options. SimpleSwap supports 1,000+ pairs versus ChangeNOW's 850+. In practice, both cover the major assets most users need.

The best platform at any given moment is usually the one offering the better rate for your specific pair. Before swapping a significant amount, check both platforms and compare the quoted output. See our SimpleSwap review for a full breakdown of that platform.

ChangeNOW vs Changelly

ChangeNOW is focused on crypto-to-crypto swaps. Changelly offers both crypto swaps and fiat card purchase routes in some regions. If you want to buy crypto with a card, Changelly is worth comparing against exchanges. For pure crypto-to-crypto conversion, both platforms are comparable. Compare rates at the moment you want to swap.

ChangeNOW vs exchanges

If you already hold crypto and want to convert between assets, a swap platform like ChangeNOW is often simpler: no account, no full KYC, and faster to start. If you need to buy crypto with fiat (bank transfer or card), an exchange is the right tool. See our best crypto exchanges comparison for exchange options, or our crypto apps overview for a broader comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ChangeNOW safe?

ChangeNOW is a non-custodial swap service — it does not store your private keys and does not hold your funds beyond the brief processing window. The biggest risks are user-side: entering the wrong destination address or selecting the wrong output network. Both result in permanent loss. Verify your wallet address and network before sending. Using ChangeNOW does not remove the need for careful address checking.

Does ChangeNOW require KYC?

ChangeNOW does not require account registration for basic crypto-to-crypto swaps. However, identity checks may be triggered depending on the transaction size, asset pair, or risk assessment. Check ChangeNOW's current terms of service for up-to-date verification requirements. "No account needed" does not mean no checks ever.

What are ChangeNOW fees?

ChangeNOW does not publish a separate percentage fee. The cost is built into the exchange rate — you receive slightly less than the mid-market rate. The effective spread varies by asset pair, rate type (fixed vs floating), and market conditions. You also pay standard network transaction fees for sending the input asset. Compare the quoted output against a live rate before confirming.

Is ChangeNOW better than SimpleSwap?

Both are non-custodial swap services with no registration required for basic swaps. SimpleSwap supports 1,000+ pairs versus ChangeNOW's 850+. The better option at any given moment is the one offering the better rate for your specific pair. Check both before swapping a significant amount.

What happens if I send crypto on the wrong network?

Sending an asset on the wrong network — for example, TRC-20 USDT to an ERC-20 address — typically results in permanent loss. ChangeNOW cannot recover funds sent on the wrong network. Confirm both input and output networks match what your receiving wallet supports before sending.

Can beginners use ChangeNOW?

ChangeNOW has a simple interface, but it is not designed for users who do not yet have a self-custody wallet set up. You need to know your destination wallet address, confirm the correct network, and understand that transactions are irreversible. If you are new to crypto, set up and test your wallet with a small amount first before using a swap platform.

What should I check before starting a swap?

Before sending any funds: verify the destination wallet address is correct for the output asset and network. Confirm the minimum swap amount. Check whether you are using fixed or floating rate. Review the estimated output amount. Note the swap transaction ID so you can track status. Make sure you are on the official ChangeNOW site, not a phishing copy.

How we evaluate swap platforms

Our swap platform assessments are based on publicly available information, tested swap flows, and patterns in real user feedback. We evaluate swap platforms across six areas:

  • Rate transparency: Whether the spread is visible before confirmation, how fixed and floating rate options differ in practice.
  • Supported assets and networks: Range of coins covered, which blockchain networks are supported, and minimum swap amounts.
  • Swap flow and ease of use: How the interface handles the address entry and network selection steps — where most user errors happen.
  • KYC and AML handling: Whether identity checks apply, under what conditions they are triggered, and what "no account needed" actually means.
  • Support and refund process: How the platform handles failed or delayed swaps and what users can expect if something goes wrong.
  • Security and phishing risk: Whether the platform flags official domain clearly, and what mitigations exist against phishing and wrong-address errors.
